Japanese professional tennis player Naomi Osaka has been a trailblazer since bursting onto the scene a few years back.
A four-time grand slam champion with seven titles on the WTA Tour to her name, Osaka has been a shining light for women athletes from Asia, having been the first female from her continent to be ranked world no.1 in singles by the ATP.

Naomi Osaka’s birthday is October 16, 1997. She was born in Chuo-ku, Osaka in Japan, and is currently 25 years old.
Despite being born in Ghana, Osaka and her parents moved to New York when she was just three years and it was in the United States that she first fell in love with tennis.
Her talent saw her rise to become the world’s no.1, although she has since dropped in the rankings due to a break she took in 2021 for personal and mental health reasons.

“We made the decision that Naomi would represent Japan at an early age. She was born in Osaka and was brought up in a household of Japanese and Haitian culture,” they explained.
“Quite simply, Naomi and her sister Mari have always felt Japanese so that was our only rationale. It was never a financially motivated decision nor were we ever swayed either way by any national federation.”
Naomi has a sister called Mari, who also used to be a professional tennis player. She has no children but is dating American rapper Cordae.

The 25-year-old’s college education isn’t clear, but she had a stint at the ISP Academy and later moved to the Harold Solomon Tennis Academy in 2014. Naomi also trained at the ProWorld Tennis Academy.
