Polish professional tennis player Iga Swiątek emerged recently but is already dominating the sport like we haven’t seen in a long while.
Swiątek has three major singles titles to her name and is currently ranked no.1 in the world by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).
She also has a couple of records to her name, including being the first Polish player to win a major singles title. And she has won 11 career titles.
Biography and age
Swiatek was born in Warsaw on May 31, 2001, and she’s 21 years old. The Pole was inspired to play tennis by her elder sister, who had to quit the sport due to an injury.
During her junior career, Swiatek competed in various ITF Junior Circuit events, winning back-to-back low-level Grade 4 titles in 2015.
At the age of 14, she reached the quarterfinals at the 2016 French Open after making her junior Grand Slam debut. Even better, she won the Grade 1 Canadian Open Junior Championships, after beating Olga Danilovic in the final.
Swiatek translated her impressive form at the junior level to her senior career and, since making her professional debut in 2016, has chalked so much success.
She won the 2020 French Open title without losing any singles match. She added the Italian Open title as well as back-to-back WTA 1000 titles in 2022 at Qatar and Indian Wells.
Her 37-match winning streak currently stands as the longest on the WTA Tour in the 21st century.
